Botanical Walk in Crete
Exploring Organic Cultivation & Native Plants
Understanding begins with observing.
The Botanical Walk offers a guided exploration of Manolis’ organic farm in Apokoronas, Crete.
Over two to two and a half hours,
we walk through olive groves, citrus trees, avocado
cultivation, aromatic plants, and seasonal growth.
Along the way, we become familiar with:
- Organic farming practices
- Native and endemic Cretan plants
- Seasonal fruits and vegetables
- Wildflowers and self-seeded herbs
This is an opportunity to see how cultivation and nature coexist within a living landscape.
Practical. Informative. Rooted in place.
Every plant has its season.
Cultivation & Native Plants
Manolis explains organic cultivation methods used on the farm
and how they differ from conventional agricultural practices.
We speak about:
- Olive growing and harvesting cycles
- Avocado cultivation in Crete
- Citrus varieties and seasonal rhythms
- Endemic and rare wildflowers of the region
- Self-growing aromatic herbs within the farm landscape
Guests are invited to ask questions and taste seasonal fruit when available.
The focus is observation and understanding — not harvesting.
Cultivation is also a form of listening.
Herb Bundles & Tea
After the walk, we return to the shaded area of the farm.
Together, we create small herb bundles from what has been gathered —
learning how to tie them properly for drying and storage.
Manolis explains how drying changes aroma and strength,
and how herbs have traditionally been stored and used in everyday Cretan life.
We then sit for a simple seasonal refreshment and herbal tea,
allowing time for questions and quiet exchange.
Nothing elaborate.
Just time to settle what we have learned.
Learning stays longer
when the senses are involved.
